From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At approximately 2,500 feet MSL about 6 miles from moffet Federal airfield airplane shook noticeably and the power dropped. Pilot stated he contacted moffet tower to request an emergency landing. During the telephone interview pilot stated he retarded the mixture to idle cutoff due to the engines rough operation. He did not attempt a restart to try to diagnose the problem. The pilot was able to land at moffet without incident. The aircraft was inspected by an A&P mechanic and concluded that the left tank was out of fuel. The right wing tank had about 25 gallons of fuel. The tank selector was in the left tank position. The A&P returned the aircraft to service and flew it to san carlos airport.
