What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Pilot stated that he attempted a takeoff on runway 23 at Elko, Nevada, when the winds were 160 at 15 knots gusting to 25 knots. After accelerating to just above 50 knots he experienced a wind gust which caused him to lose control of the aircraft. As the aircraft was skidding off the runway to the left the pilot reduced the throttle. The aircraft continued moving and impacted the visual approach slope indicating system on the side of the runway along with a runway edge light. This caused the nose wheel to collapse and separate from the airframe. The propeller struck the ground and the front of the aircraft incurred substantial damage. The firewall buckled.
