From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On October 23, 2009 helicopter Schweizer 269C, N612U left kvgt for flight training at approximately 11:45AM. Flight instructor and student pilot were practicing run on landing maneuvers when flight instructor took the controls and picked it up off the ground on taxiway papa. While hovering forward at approximately 10 knots, the PIC performed a quick stop prior to hotel intersection. Flight instructor then pulled cyclic to stop the movement of the helicopter causing the tail rotor to contact the taxiway. Flight instructor noticed a large amount of vibration and quickly set the helicopter down on the ground. Maintenance was notified and the helicopter was moved to the hanger. A final determination will be quite a while as parts have to be sent out for magnetic partical inspection, magnaflux testing and manufacturer inspections. The insurance company is allowing lj air corporation to proceed with the repair. The damage appears to be limited to removable replaceable parts. New or serviceable parts are being installed until appropriate tests can be performed on parts requiring more extensive inspection so that the aircraft can be returned to service. No injuries or post fire was reported. To be ammened.
