From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N165AM launched from kcbf at approximately 1814 CST on 11/04/2009 for a patient pick-up in lewis township Iowa near the intersection of cardinal lane and overland trail. N165AM landed facing west on cardinal lane at approximately 1825 CST and the patient was brought aboard. At approximately 1850 CST (during the hours of darkness) the pilot lifted off from the road (cardinal lane, which runs east-west), and swung the tail toward the north. The tail rotor contacted a power line which it severed. The pilot performed a precautionary landing in a field.
