From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Pilot verified load manifest, fuel, weather clearances, engine oil level, passenger loading, and departed for kipnuk, Alaska. Approximantly 30 minutes into flight at 4500 feet (cruise), oil pressure dropped to zero. Pilot diverted to tuntatuliak, Alaska. The engine lost power as the mixture & throttle were positioned "full" forward, positioned fuel switch to both, and switched on both emergency & regular fuel pumps. The pilot reports ...the engine came to a "grinding" stop. The aircraft was not damaged during the emergency "off field" landing on a frozen lake bed. Engine "teardown" inspection noted a broken crankshaft at the # 2 main bearing journal from a 3/4" area.
