From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The IFR rated flight instructor/commercial pilot departed sundance airpark (hsd) at approximately 2300 bound for Alva regional (avk) in a 1976 Cessna 310R. Witnesses report that heavy fog was present at avk. At approximately 2400 the aircraft was heard by witnesses pass overhead but was never seen due to the fog. Several minutes later a loud "bang" was heard and the witnesses called 911.the aircraft struck the ground in an open field approximately 1/2 mile south and slightly west of runway 35 at avk. The debris path indicates that the aircraft was approaching the airport from the south at a heading of 358. Damage to the aircraft shows a high speed/ low angle of impact. Propeller damage is consistant with a high power setting. The flaps and landing gear were up and correspond with selectors in the cockpit.
