From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 01/21/2010 at 1548Z/0748 PST, SW216, a B-737-3H4, incurred minor damage after striking a runway/taxiway sign while on landing rollout at San Diego intl airport (ksan). Winds on ksan ATIS at 1523Z, 25 minutes prior to landing were reported at 190/22G33KT. Winds reported on ksan ATIS at 1551Z, 3 minutes after SW216 landed, were reported at 180/22G29KT. SW216 was cleared to land on rwy 09. San ATCT reported winds at 160/20 KTS, just prior to SW216 landing. The pilot of SW216 reported that as the aircraft slowed to 70-80 kt during the landing rollout it began to veer to the right. The fo was holding full right aileron. The PIC applied full left rudder. The plane continued toward the right side of the rwy. The pilot said he had no steering authority at that point. The plane exited the runway on the south side, just short of the B2 taxiway. The pilot regained steering authority as the plane slowed to less than 50 kt., and he stopped the plane just short of taxiway b at B2. The pilot said he did not feel the plane hit anything during the excursion from the runway. After he and the SIC assessed the situation, they taxied the plane to the gate without further incident. Minor damage was later found to the underside of the left engine cowling where it had struck the B2 taxiway sign; and to the left outboard main tire where it had struck a taxiway light. There were no injuries to any passengers or crew.
