From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On February 15, 2010, N7658U, a Cessna 150M, s/n 15077784, was involved in a carburetor fire during initial starting of this aircraft's engine. Joel garcia, private pilot certificate # 3383691, was performing engine start and warm up intended for flight after priming and throttle setting. The aircraft was located on Hartford-Brainard Airport (hfd) midfield tie-down pad #3 during the incident. Mr. Garcia intended on logging some night flight time to become more proficient. Mr. Garcia stated he primed the engine 5 times due to the ambient temperature being 32 degrees fahrenheit. The current Cessna 150M operations manual states to prime the engine 3-6 times for this carbureted Continental engine. After hearing a loud bang and witnessing flames shooting out the front inlet area of the engine cowling, Mr. Garcia exited the aircraft and immediately called 911. Personnel from premier flight center witnessed the aircraft fire and provided an abc type fire extinguisher to douse the flames. The fire was extinguished within 1-2 minutes after the initial ignition. The aircraft is owned by premier flight center and was being rented by Mr. Garcia at the time. Incident ptrs: EA63201004903
