From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot stated that he was flying at an altitude of 50 to 60 feet above the ground, looking for a runway marker on the kuskokwim river. As the pilot proceeded along the river low level, he flew on the lee side of a hill and encountered turbulence, due to the prevailing 17 knot wind over the hill. The aircraft rolled to the right. The pilot corrected with full left aileron and right rudder, cross controlling the aircraft. This caused the aircraft to further lose control, descend and strike the ground in a near level attitude.

As the FAA filed it

THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS FLYING AT AN ALTITUDE OF 50 TO 60 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, LOOKING FOR A RUNWAY MARKER ON THE KUSKOKWIM RIVER. AS THE PILOT PROCEEDED ALONG THE RIVER LOW LEVEL, HE FLEW ON THE LEE SIDE OF A HILL AND ENCOUNTERED TURBULENCE, DUE TO THE PREVAILING 17 KNOT WIND OVER THE HILL.THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED TO THE RIGHT. THE PILOT CORRECTED WITH FULL LEFT AILERON AND RIGHT RUDDER, CROSS CONTROLLING THE AIRCRAFT. THIS CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO FURTHER LOSE CONTROL, DESCEND AND STRIKE THE GROUND IN A NEAR LEVEL ATTITUDE.
