From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

According to statements received from both privacy data omitted and CFI, shortly after takeoff from vpc at approx. 1300 ft turning crosswind, aircraft engine failed. Attempted restart. Engine restarted for only 5-10 seconds and again failed. CFI took control of aircraft and turned east and made emergency landing in field east of airport. Address is known as privacy data omitted. Substantial damage incurred to nose structure. Right main landing gear also damaged. No injuries.03-31-10 performed inspection of engine and found oil injector pump had failed due to coupling between injector pump and engine crankshaft destroyed. As a result of coupling failure, engine was starved of oil and rear cylinder had evidence of overheat and compression loss. Piston ring lands melted over piston rings and cylinder walls galled.
