From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

In pattern at gso and cleared for the option on the down wind for a third touch and go on 5L. Pilot and passenger heard a loud thump in front of the airplane. Notified tower of a full stop due to noise heard. Tower verified landing gear looked normal. Pilot tried to decrease power but couldn't retard throttle. After crossing runway threshhold pilot instructed passenger to pull mixture back to kill the engine. Landing was uneventful. Passenger reapplied mixture noting engine increase to 2000 RPM. Passenger immediately killed engine with mixture control and aircraft rolled to a stop approximately 20 feet from hold short line at K2. Pilot and passenger received permission from tower to manually pull airplane across hold short line off the runway. Pilot and passenger noted nose landing light/air filter assmembly missing from center of lower cowl with damage to LH side of cowl and aft side of both propeller blades. Aircraft was towed to FBO.
