From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N51621, Maule M-5 aircraft, was enroute from kjxn to kcnc with one(1) pilot and three(3) passengers. Had just terminated flight following from azo and received premission to overfly kgyy airspace when engine began to run rough. Being in cruise configuration (25 square), pilot applied full throttle & full prop. Engine continued to run rough and began losing power. At that point, pilot observed oil pressure rapidly decreasing and oil temperature increasing. Pilot then notified gyy tower of distress. Gyy tower cleared aircraft to land any runway. Pilot advised gyy tower unable to make runway and would be landing on the beach. Upon landing, engine shut down. Aircraft landed and rolled-out without incident. All four occupants exited the aircraft without injury or further incident. Upon arrival of FAA investigating personnel, no damage was noted to aircraft or surrounding property. No visable damage was noted to aircraft engine or assoc. Accessories. Fuel samples were normal with no noted comtaminates and fuel quantity was not an issue as there was full outer tanks and inner tanks contained approx 1/4 full. There was noted a small amount of oil dripping from engine compartment and sprayed/streaking along bottom side of fuselage trailing aft. Investigating official was able to rotate prop through one(1) full revolution. No abnormal noises were heard and magneto impluse coupling was heard and appeared to be operating normally. At completion of investigation, aircraft was released from FAA control to owner for removal and transport from beach.
