The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On may 6, 2010, N330AX, a Hawker hunter, landed gear-up on the runway at nas Ventura county (ntd). The aircraft sustained minor damages to the left and right external wing tanks. Additionally, a VHF antenna located on the belly of the aircraft sustained minor damage. The external fuel tanks were empty except for residual fuel. A small amount of fuel was spilled on the runway, approximately ten gallons, and was contained by the fire department. The mishap aircraft was part of a two ship flight. The other aircraft was an A-4. The purpose of the flight was a qualification flight for the A-4. The mishap pilot was flying as the chase in the Hawker hunter. The mishap aircraft completed the air work with the A-4 and returned to ntd. The mission was planned with extra fuel and both aircraft burned the excessive fuel in order to obtain landing weight in the traffic pattern performing low approaches. The A-4 landed first after the pattern work was completed. The mishap aircraft called mid-field abeam to the tower reporting gear down. The aircraft turned base to final and touched down on the runway on the external tanks. Human factors, the Hawker hunter aircraft does not have a landing gear handle with lights installed. Additionally the aircraft does not have a landing gear configuration warning system. The landing gear extension system consists of a push-pull button located on the lower left side of the cockpit just forward of the throttles. Also, the landing gear position indicating system is below and to the left of the landing gear actuation switch. The system consists of three small peanut lights and visibility of these lights to the pilot can be obscured. The mishap pilot is a full time employee of ups as a captain qualified in the B-757. Additionally, the mishap pilot is a part time pilot employed by atac. He is qualified in the A-4 and Hawker hunter. The followoing factors contributed to this incident: (1) the design of the aircraft's landing gear system; (2)the pilot being qualified in three different types of aircraft that were built by three different manufacturers .
