From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During the conduct of an instrument proficiency check, the instructor pulled the throttle on the left engine to simulate an engine failure on takeoff at approximately 20 feet in the air. Pilot claimed he tried to advance the throttles but instructors hands were in the way. The plane banked sharply to the left and crashed in the trees on the left side of runway 1. The plane was destroyed in the fire. The instructor died in the crash. The owner escaped with serious injuries.
