From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On June 23, 2010, at approximately 14:20 UTC, N1831Q, a Cessna 177 rg was operated to perform an instrument training flight with a certified flight instructor (CFI) and a student pilot (sp). The sp completed the pre-landing checklist and noticed that the nose landing gear (NLG) was not extended on the back course of approach 28 at Midland international airport (maf), located in Midland, Texas. The sp then recycled the gear with no success. Since the plane is based at skywest airport (7T7) located in Midland, Texas the CFI canceled the approach into maf and proceeded to 7T7.at 7T7 the sp recycled the landing gear electrically two more times without success. Between one of the attempts, the CFI placed the plane in a 2G load as the gear was being extended; the NLG remained in the wheel well. The sp attempted to manually extend the gear and the NLG remained in the wheel well. The cfi's final option was to bounce the plane on runway 16 and performed a go around, the NLG failed to extend. At approximately 15:15 UTC CFI landed the plane on runway 16, the student pilot pulled the mixture control and the plane slid approximately 53 yards and came to a stop 4 feet off runway centerline.

As the FAA filed it
