From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At 1045 hours on June, 29, 2010, aircraft N331EJ, an Evans Vp-1 owned by privacy data omitted, and operated by privacy data omitted, experienced power plant failure in flight. The pilot executed a forced landing in a field. There were no injuries to the pilot. There was minor damage to the aircraft's left and right wing leading edge skins adjacent to the main landing gear tires, left and right landing gear struts, and the landing gear tension cables. Inspection revealed that the engine had oil, air, fuel, and compression, but did not have ignition. A ground test run was attempted at the incident site. The engine turned over and propeller partially rotated, but the engine failed to complete a successful start and remain running. Battery voltage during test run was noted at 11 vdc under load. The ignition system on the engine is an automotive electronic ignition system, model compu-fire dis-ix, manufactured by spyke, incorporated. It was installed after issuance of the aircraft's airworthiness certificate, with no secondary or backup ignition system installed in the aircraft. The manufacturer's minimum stated operating voltage for the electronic ignition system is 6 vdc to produce ignition to the spark plugs.
