From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 07/05/2010 at approximately 1725 EDT (2125 z) the subject aircraft being operated by the subject airman attempted to land on rwy 4 at Essex County Airport (kcdw), Fairfield, NJ at the completion of a VFR flight under VMC conditions originating from plattsburgh, NY. The attempted landing was described by witnesses as high and fast. An examination of the runway at cdw indicated that the aircraft made contact three times. The aircraft initially touched down 955 feet from the rwy 4 displaced threshold where it left three propeller strike marks 2.5 feet apart. The aircraft next struck the runway 2349 feet from the rwy 4 displaced threshold where it left an abrasion mark from the nose wheel fairing and six propeller strike marks approximately two feet apart. The last time the aircraft contacted the runway was 2523 feet from the displaced threshold where a heavier nose wheel fairing abrasion mark and six more, deeper propeller strike marks were evident. These propeller strikes steadily increased in distance from two feet apart to 4.5 feet apart. From this point, a go around was initiated. Witnesses stated that the aircraft climbed abruptly at the end of runway to an altitude of approximately 200 feet, stalled and descended vertically impacting the asphalt driveway of a business located at 11 daniel road, Fairfield, NJ. The aircraft was destroyed in the post crash fire. The pilot and two passengers were fatally injured. The condition of the propeller at the crash scene indicated that the engine was producing power at impact. The Cirrus accident investigator at the scene stated that the position of the flap jack-screw type actuators indicated that the flaps were positioned at 100% (32 degrees). Note: the aircraft total time in block 13 is estimated. The last verifiable total time from the aircraft records was 601.2 hours on 12/23/2009.

As the FAA filed it
