Initial exterior inspection revealed that the front inner side of the left float (as viewed from the pilot seat) had suffered some deformation, the left lower engine cowl also displayed deformation and the outer 10 feet of the left wing showed substantial damage with part of the left aileron missing, the upper most part of the vertical tail had minor damage, however the operator of the crane indicated that he had done that damge while recovering the aircraft. The flight controls were all tested and test revealed that the ailerons moved freely, the elevator was tested and moved freely; the rudder pedals on the pilot's side both right and left were tested and worked properly. All other circuit breakers were in. Elevator trim was halfway in the up nose position. Ailerons trim was in neutral position. The aircraft was taken to the folsom's sea plane ramp that is located on the south most point of moosehead lake. At that location a battery cart was connected to the aircraft, the four down wheel gear light were on and a yellow gear advisory light was on, the electric gear motor would not work, the landing gear was manually retracted by pumping the hydraulic pump lever. Seat and lap belts were in the aircraft and none of them had been cut. Passenger natalie a. holmes-moody dob 11/23/48 was interviewd at approximately 1400 hours on 8-2-2010 at the residence of the victim pilot.
