From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On August 1, 2010, at approximately 1040 EDT, N24WF, a Grumman American AA-5 was involved in a ground taxi incident at Potomac airfield airport (vkx). The pilot and owner was identified as john wulff, certificate number privacy data omitted. There were no injuries. The owner/operator performed an aircraft preflight inspection using checklist developed from aircraft operating manual, and then departed the parking spot toward run-up area prior to flight. As he left parking, operator applied right brake and made an uneventful right turn. Continuing on, the pilot applied both brakes to slow aircraft and the right brake grabbed but the left did not, causing the aircraft to enter a hard right turn. The aircraft turned into and struck the right wing of a parked and unoccupied aircraft. Operator stated that there was an initial feeling of pressure in the left brake prior to taxi, but as braking was applied to slow aircraft there was no feeling in left brake whatsoever. Inspection of parking area and taxi route showed no signs of fresh brake oil from leak. Fletchair inc removed the left wheel pant and performed an inspection of the brake system. Maintenance personnel determined there was evidence of fluid leakage in the wheel pant, and the brake system was void of fluid in addition to the hydraulic line at the connection to the left brake caliper incorrectly flared. Fletchair inc has scheduled repair work order to brake system to replace the hydraulc line with a new fabricated line. Inspector's investigation revealed the annual inspection was completed 06/26/2010 iaw Grumman American checklist. Brake pads, calipers, and disc conditions were checked and the system was serviced. The maintenance log revealed that no other inspection or maintenance was performed between 06/26/2010 and 08/01/2010 . The aircraft had flown on two separate occasions following the annual with at least four uneventful braking maneuvers during these flights.

As the FAA filed it

ON AUGUST 1, 2010, AT APPROXIMATELY 1040 EDT, N24WF, A GRUMMAN AMERICAN AA-5 WAS INVOLVED IN A GROUND TAXI INCIDENT AT POTOMAC AIRFIELD AIRPORT (VKX). THE PILOT AND OWNER WAS IDENTIFIED AS JOHN WULFF, CERTIFICATE NUMBER ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.THE OWNER/OPERATOR PERFORMED AN AIRCRAFT PREFLIGHT INSPECTION USING CHECKLIST DEVELOPED FROM AIRCRAFT OPERATING MANUAL, AND THEN DEPARTED THE PARKING SPOT TOWARD RUN-UP AREA PRIOR TO FLIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT TURNED INTO AND STRUCK THE RIGHT WING OF A PARKED AND UNOCCUPIED AIRCRAFT.OPERATOR STATED THAT THERE WAS AN INITIAL FEELING OF PRESSURE IN THE LEFT BRAKE PRIOR TO TAXI, BUT AS BRAKING WAS APPLIED TO SLOW AIRCRAFT THERE WAS NO FEELING IN LEFT BRAKE WHATSOEVER. FLETCHAIR INC HAS SCHEDULED REPAIR WORK ORDER TO BRAKE SYSTEM TO REPLACE THE HYDRAULC LINE WITH A NEW FABRICATED LINE.INSPECTOR'S INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE ANNUAL INSPECTION WAS COMPLETED 06/26/2010 IAW GRUMMAN AMERICAN CHECKLIST. THE AIRCRAFT HAD FLOWN ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS FOLLOWING THE ANNUAL WITH AT LEAST FOUR UNEVENTFUL BRAKING MANEUVERS DURING THESE FLIGHTS.
