From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

A customs and border patrol helicopter flight crew was conducting a straight- in- autorotation to runway 33 at the Warrenton-fauquier airport. On power recovery at a hover, the nose high pitch of the helicopter caused the stinger and tail rotor blades to contact the runway to the right of the centerline near the 1000 foot marker. The instructor pilot immediately pitched the aircraft forward to arrest the tail low condition. The aircraft began to shudder and both pilots worked to recover the aircraft but not before the aircraft began to pivot nose right due to the loss of tail rotor thrust. The helicopter struck the runway left skid low and came to rest beyond the 1500 foot marker, near the taxiway exiting runway 33. Both pilots executed the shutdown checklist and exited through the main cabin doorways adjacent to each pilot. The NTSB and the FAA were notified.

As the FAA filed it

A CUSTOMS AND BORDER PATROL HELICOPTER FLIGHT CREW WAS CONDUCTING A STRAIGHT- IN- AUTOROTATION TO RUNWAY 33 AT THE WARRENTON-FAUQUIER AIRPORT.ON POWER RECOVERY AT A HOVER, THE NOSE HIGH PITCH OF THE HELICOPTER CAUSED THE STINGER AND TAIL ROTOR BLADES TO CONTACT THE RUNWAY TO THE RIGHT OF THE CENTERLINE NEAR THE 1000 FOOT MARKER.
