From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Private pilot andy delorme departed sna - john wayne airport on 8/17/2010 at approximately 1430 local. The purpose was a local pleasure flight south to oceanside municipal airport. Delorme asked for and recieved flight following from ATC for the quick flight, and used transponder code 0247.delorme said as he crossed the ocn-vor he looked east and saw a (the intended) runway. He flew directly to and entered the right downwind of runway 21 of Camp Pendleton....not oceanside muni. Delorme, realizing as he got closer to the runway environment, realized he was not at okb, corrected his navigation as he flew over the runway 21 numbers on the base leg. Delorme said at that point, he saw military helicopters operating, and knew he had made a mistake. To the south he saw another runway, okb runway 24, and flew directly there and landed. On departure from okb, delorme again requested flight following from ATC. ATC advised him that Camp Pendleton's controllers wanted to talk to him and gave him a phone number to call, which he did after he returned home.
