From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During aircraft relocation, the contract ground service contractor, menzies aviation pushing back a B-777-300 aircraft vh-vpd to remote spot #10 made contact with the blast fence. Aircraft left horizontal stabilizer and elevator sustained moderate damage. Menzie safety investigation report states that the tail walker (8 month with ma) failed to use emergency stop procedures prior to aircraft making contact. Four member crew was removed and dispensed for drug and alcohol testing (all tested negative). Tow driver and tail walker suspended pending completion of investigation and remedial training. Corrective action taken will be for the terminal manager to select the tow crews for remote towing and in addition, spot #10 has been marked for B-777-300 parking. Prior to incident only B-777-200 marks were identified. Sia engineering, certificated part 145 repair station completed the removal and replacement of the left horizontal stabilizer tip fairing iaw amm 55-11-01 and the left elevator iaw amm 27-31-10. Rigging and functional check satisfactory and aircraft was returned to service. For specific statements and menzies safety investigation report, see incident folded located in the FSDO file room.
