From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The Cirrus SR-20 aircraft was attempting to land on runway 35 at Williams Airport (9X1) in Porter, Texas at night. The pilot missed his approach and clipped a 120' pine tree with the left wing. The left wing broke apart due to impact with tree. The aircraft crossed over a road and rolled to the right, and impacted the ground nose first. It appears that the pilot had deployed the aircraft's ballistic recovery parachute prior to impact. The chute was not fully deployed and was tangled in the trees. The pilot sustained facial and head injuries. As of the time of this report the pilot records could not be obtained sincethe pilot was still in icu at the hospital. Pilots family informed the FAA inspectors when the pilot was well enough they would have him contact the FAA.at that time, this 8020-23 will be amended with pilots information.
