From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Airman stated that while surveying an abandoned airstrip on sitkinak island for use as a suitable landing area, the winds began increasing. Winds were across the runway, and downwind of nearby mountainous terrain, estimated at approaching 20 knots, and increasing. During a pass down the landing area at less than 15 feet AGL, the aircraft began rolling due to winds. The airman began a go-around, and the left wingtip struck the ground. The aircraft bounced and cartwheeled, resulting in substantial damage. There were no other persons on board the aircraft, and the pilot was uninjured.
