From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On September 2, 2010, at 07:45 CDT, a Champion 7KCAB, N1678G, piloted by privacy data omitted was involved in a landing accident at the Karl Stefan Memorial Airport, Norfolk, Nebraska. The aircraft was being flown on a local VFR flight by a student pilot on his second solo. The pilot departed runway 01 with a 3 knot cross-wind from the northwest. After ten minutes, the wind increased to 10 knots out of the northwest. The pilot set up for an approach and landing on runway 19. The pilot made a three point landing and touched down on the runway with all three wheels. The aircraft started to weathervane to the left into the wind and the left wing lifted picking the left main gear off the runway. The pilot added power to get the airplane flying again, but only lifted the airplane momentarily before it contacted the runway again in a crab to the left. The right main landing gear failed and folded under the aircraft and the right wing tip contacted the runway. The propeller struck the pavement and the aircraft came to rest on the runway 01 on a 330 degree heading. The aircraft received substantial damage. The student pilot was not injured in the accident and no persons or property where hurt or damaged on the ground.
