From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Upon landing from a instructional flight, CFI initiated a simulated engine out @ 4500' MSL in which the student started a spiraling descent to runway 13 with right-hand turns. At 1700' MSL, a turn to a close baseleg was made with gear and flaps being lowered at that point. Turn to final overshot the runway centerline by approx 200'. Student attempted to make a steep turn to correct overshoot but was stopped by instructor and told it would be better to make line-up corrections after established on final. At approx 200'AGL, student pulled back on yoke to arrest descent due to concern for nearby trees. Instaructor stopped that action by pushing yoke forward to maintain best glide. At approx 100'AGL, student again pulled the yoke back and stalled while turning onto a hard left bank resulting in a rapid descent and a hard landing on the left main gear. Left main gear failed and aircraft departed the runway to the left side approx. 200' down runway 13.

As the FAA filed it
