From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 09/18/2010 at aprox 0915EST I responded to an incident report from the roc. The incident involved a Piper J3 cub N3336N piloted by sole occupant privacy data omitted cert # privacy data omitted. According to privacy data omitted verbal statement to me over the telephone immediately after the incident. He was performing a series of take off and landings at Marlborough, MA (9B1) airport when on approach he was slipping the aircraft to decrease his airspeed and altitude. privacy data omitted Stated that when he attempted to straighten the aircraft out for touch down, the aircraft failed to respond to opposite rudder. The aircraft touched down on the runway facing several degrees offset to the right, from the center line of the runway. When the aircraft touched down facing several degrees to the right of the centerline of the runway it side loaded the left main landing gear to the point of failure. When the two structual members supporting the left main landing gear failed, it caused the aircraft to veer off to the right. When the left landing gear failed it also caused the left wing tip to drop down and momentarily scrap the runway before the aircraft departed the runway into the grass off to the right side of he runway. The aircraft came to a rest aprox 150FT down the runway from initial touchdown point and 25FT into the grass off to the right side when the broken left main gear, bottom of the engine cowling, propeller, and left wing tip dug into the soft earth and grass. The pilot privacy data omitted suffered no injuries and the aircraft received only minor damage. I am requesting privacy data omitted a certificated pilot since 2/10/1969 receive a 44709 check ride to ensure his pilot competency skills.
