From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During the approach to landing at dewey moore airstrip in the Idaho back county an aircraft was noticed on the runway about 2/3 of the way down the runway. The airstrip is about 600 ft long. In the attempt to make the landing the pilot landed hard just short of the normal touchdown area, struck the tail on the ground and rolled out normally. The aircraft was flown to the home base (myl). During the post flight inspection it was noted that the tail tie down ring was missing and that the skin on the bottom side of the tail had been damaged. Upon further investigation it was noted that the skin on the upper side of the empennage had been wrinkled during the hard landing.
