From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

10/13/2010, Kbvi, N105RZ, vans aircraft RV-6A, aircraft departed the runway after landing due to a brake problem. 10/14/2010, when I arrived at bvi the owner had removed the left and right brake calipers and pads, and had replaced the faulty piston o-ring of the right side. The calipers had not been reassembled or installed. The removed o-ring was deformed and had several cracks and pitting. Pictures are on file. The brake pads that were removed were worn beyond limits and have signs of deterioration due to heat build-up. Aircraft records show that the aircraft had not received a conditional inspection within the previous 12 months. The last conditional inspection was nov 25, 2008. The owner has repairman privileges and said that he is going to replace the worn brake parts and perform a conditional inspection. When I questioned privacy data omitted if he knew that he was flying his aircraft in a condition other that for safe flight-the conditional inspection not being performed within the last twelve calendar months-he said that he was aware and that he hasn't had time to do it but was preparing to. The aircraft appears to be lacking good inspection technique and proper maintenance practices.I also noticed from privacy data omitted pilot log book, that he has not had a biennial flight review (bfr) within the previous twenty-four calendar months. I asked him if he was aware that he was operating his aircraft in violation of CFR part 91 by not having a bfr in the last two years. He said that he knew that he was not current and he needed to have a flight review. He claimed that he was flying to practice for the bfr but did not know when he was going to have it done. He stated that he was leaving this morning to fly to south carolina with air heritage on the C-123. I asked him if he was a crew member for the flight, he said that he was not. I advised him not to be flying until he completes the bfr. End wdg
