From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot was conducting a maintenance flight after completion of the annual inspection. While on downwind in the pattern the pilot started his before landing checklist. During the checklist he was distracted by another aircraft taking off and turning in his direction. He got concerned about the altitude of the departing aircraft and climbed his aircraft to provide more seperation. After the departing aircraft flew out from underneath him he continued his checklist, but he overlooked the "gear down" item on the checklist. The pilot continued the approach and landing wth the gear up.
