From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N5954S, a Beech A23, was involved in a landing incident at Apple Valley airport on 12/11/2010 at 1000L. 2 POB; a CFI giving dual instruction to a student pilot in preparation for his private pilot practical test. Student pilot executed a short field landing to runway 18 then applied power to go around. Aircraft initially tracked straight then drifted left. Student and CFI both applied right rudder and brake to control the aircraft's track, but still the departed the runway east side between the 3000 ft and 4000 ft runway remaining markers damaging one of the runway edge lights. Student pilot and CFI were able to execute a go-around and climbout. CFI took the controls and landed without incident. N5954S was unable to leave the runway due to a flat left main gear tire. A local FBO replaced the tire and N5954S taxiied to parking on kapv's south ramp. Post flight inspection revealed further minor damage to the stabilator, possibly caused when N5954S departed runway 18'S east side. The 2 POB were not injured. VFR weather conditions prevailed with a 5 knot wind out of the west.

As the FAA filed it
