From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Poipu, HI :a delta jet, special light sport, weight shift control aircraft made a precautionary landing on a golf course subsequently the aircraft skidded and rolled over onto it's left side causing substantial damage to the left wing.December 28 hnl FSDO inspectors arrived in kauai to inspect the aircraft and the damage was determined to be substantial. The frame of the aircraft was bent, the mast mount was cracked and the left wing spar was broken in half. The wing "nose cone" and aerodynamic cover at the center leading edge of the wing was torn. The pilot noted a few loose threads on the nose cone during preflight but did not think it was cause for concern. It was 45 minutes into the flight when the small tear worsened and because of the low pressure on the top side of the wing the nose cap had loosened from its velcro attaching strips and allowed the ram air to enter the wing. This air pressure was sufficient to change the shape of the wing creating a cambered lower surface. It is designed to be flat. With the change in the shape of the wing, excessive forward pressure is required to maintain level flight and the wing becomes very unstable. The pilot was unable to return to the departure airport and opted to land on a nearby golf courseemergency service personel from the local police and fire departments were on scene and a police report was filed and a copy supplied to the FAA and forwarded to the NTSB

As the FAA filed it

WITH THE CHANGE IN THE SHAPE OF THE WING, EXCESSIVE FORWARD PRESSURE IS REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN LEVEL FLIGHT AND THE WING BECOMES VERY UNSTABLE.THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO RETURN TO THE DEPARTURE AIRPORT AND OPTED TO LAND ON A NEARBY GOLF COURSEEMERGENCY SERVICE PERSONEL FROM THE LOCAL POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS WERE ON SCENE AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND A COPY SUPPLIED TO THE FAA AND FORWARDED TO THE NTSB
