From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Instrument rated private pilot was VFR enroute to etn (eastland TX) for a fuel stop with flight following and got an IFR clearance but missed the approach when his left fuel tank ran out of fuel. He accepted vectors back to abi (Abilene TX) but the right fuel tank ran out of fuel and he accomplished a power off landing on the parallel road of I-20 at mile marker 291, 2 miles north of Abilene, TX at about 1226 LCL. There were no injuries and the only damage was to the left stabilizer caused by hitting a sign post.
