From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

As stated by the pilot, he was in route from new bedford regional airport (kewb) to waterbury - oxford (oxc), while descending from 6500', the engine began to run rough, due to carburetor icing. Carburetor heat was applied and within five minutes the engine began to run smooth. Shortly after the carburetor heat was turnd off the engine began to run rough again. Carburetor heat was applied again and the aircraft was put in level Flight. The pilot stated he applied power and the engine stopped. The pilot was going to try and land at meriden aiport (mmk). While attempting to reach mmk, the pilot tried to restart the engine. When the pilot realized he could not make mmk, he decided to make a force landing in a field adjacent to 900 boulder road, Cheshire CT. The pilot was in communication with oxc tower. The landing was made in a snow covered field. The aircraft touched down on the main landing gear and then the nose touched down . After the nose made contact with the snow, the nose gear separated from the aircraft and the aircraft flipped on its roof. The aircraft skidded to stop and the pilot and passenger egressed from the aircraft and were not injured.
