From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On January 25, 2011, at approximately 1215CST, N947RG, a home built glenn Culver Kitfox III, was substantially damaged during a takeoff roll at a private airstrip (3TE8) in Terlingua, Texas. Records incate the aircraft was purchased by the owner on January 20, 2011, five days prior to the accident. The pilot was practicing takeoffs and landings when the accident occurred. During the takeoff roll just before raising the tail the nose veered left and the pilot failed to apply adequate flight control inputs which caused the aircraft to veer off the runway. The right wingtip contacted the ground. The resultant inertial force deflected the wing upward causing the left wingtip to strike the ground. The aircraft came to rest on the nose causing damage to the propeller and engine cowling. Structural damage was incurred to the outboard portion of the right wing adjacent to the wingtip. There was also structural damage to the lower left fuselage aft of the pilot seat. The pilot was not injured and was the sole occupant during the practice flight. The pilot had four hours of flying time within the month of January 2011. The flight was operated under title 14 CFR part 91 rules. The aircraft was a light sport aircraft certfied as a home built experimental tail wheel single engine land airplane.
