From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 2/15/2011 the aircraft departed Des Moines international airport on a test flight for purposes unrelated to the accident. Approximately 20 minutes into the flight, the right aileron departed the aircraft. The pilot declared an emergency and landed the aircraft back at Des Moines airport without further damage. Examination of the aircraft revealed that the outboard attach bracket remained with the aileron when it departed the aircraft. The inboard and middle attach brackets remained attached to the wing and did not exhibit any damage.
