From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 2/18/2011, Cessna -162 N5204R, during flight from dvt to sdl reported the pilot door disengaging from the aircraft during flight. The pilot remained in control of the aircraft and returned to dvt. The door fell on a basketball court at privacy data omitted on 2/25/2011, performed onsite inspection of aircraft, maintenance logs, and pilot certification. The pilot is certificated, privacy data omitted. It was observed that when the door disengaged, it pulled out of the rear door latch (evidence of damage by latch) but had no evidence of pulling out of the front. The door not being latched in front is evidence that the door was not completely closed and latched properly. Maintenance was completed on 2/17/2011. During this maintenance the pilot's door was replaced (pn 0911905-35 - includes SB10-52-01 preinstalled), SB10-52-01 on copilot door. The door install was has been determined to not be a cause of the event. The cause is that the pilot did not properly latch the door prior to flight.
