From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On March 5th, 2011 at approximately 1830 local time N82429 an Aeronca champ, departed runway 18 at Delphi Municipal Airport (K1I9) and came to rest in a field. The student pilot stated he was practicing high speed taxiing and aborted take-offs, IN preparation for wheel landings. During his high speed run he reduced power and then departed runway 18 off to the right side. Once in the grass he added full power in order to take-off , at that time heard a loud snap and saw his left main landing gear had broken off the aircraft. He reduced power and came to a full stop in a plowed field. The aircraft sustained substantial damage to the left wing spar, right wing and left main landing gear. The weather at the time of the accident as reported by the student were winds 210 degrees at 7 knots gusting to 11 knots and mist. Runway conditions damp. The METAR at klaf located approximately 17 miles southwest of Delphi Municipal at 18:19 local time reported winds 360 degrees at 16 knots gusting to 22 knots with 2 ½ miles visibility due to snow and mist.*note-although privacy data omitted listed March 4th on his NTSB report as the date of the accident, the actual day was March 5th as listed on this form.#32 – other.
