From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On March 14, 2011 at approximately 1150 am local time. Aircraft N40NY a Cessna 414 aircraft had a gear collapse on runway 06 at long island Macarthur airport just after touchdown. The aircraft veered of the runway into a runway direction sign damaging the front nose gear and damage to left front side of the nose of the aircraft. Investigation discovered that a piece of the upper landing gear casting had broke away. When this casting broke away it caused the over center link to relax and the right gear started to retract mechanically. There were two soles on aircraft no injuries reported. An investigation was accomplished on the maintenance manuals and it was discovered that this gear was just replaced on March 1,2011. The upper strut was purchased from the aviation group who returned the unit to service by performing an inspection including ndt of the strut assy. An investigation with all maintenance personnel involved in the installation was performed. This office has found no fault in the installation of the gear. On April 18, 2011 the upper gear assembly was sent to Washington DC for metallurgy inspection by the national transportation safety board. This office has found no fault in the piloting of the aircraft or the maintenance performed. No further action required at this time .
