From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N23PH , a Lancair aircraft, piloted byprivacy data omitted, was IFR inbound to wilmington, NC (ilm). The pilot checked on the radar controller's frequency and was instructed to descend to 4000 feet. He was informed by radar that ATIS information oscar was current and to expect runway 24. Seven miles west-southwest of jacksonville, NC, descending out of 6000 feet the pilot declared an emergency due to low fuel pressure. The pilot asked for the closest runway and was advised that the albert j. Ellis Airport (oaj) was the closest. The aircraft was vectored from a heading of 200 degrees to 50 degrees. The pilot reported the airport was in sight. He was cleared for a visual approach and advised that runway 5/23 was available. The radar controller informed the pilot of the runway length and the UNICOM frequency for the airport. The aircraft crash landed in a cornfield approximate 2 miles southwest of the airport.
