From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On may 31, 2011, privacy data omitted said that he failed to latch his RV-12'S canopy prior to take off. As he rotated, the canopy popped up and rapidly swung upwards towards full open. He reached up with his throttle hand and pulled it down as he began to abort the takeoff. He had to let go of it to pull the throttle back and as he did so, it opened again. Between fighting with the canopy and the throttle, he landed nose first, breaking his NLG wheel fairing, bending the NLG leg and shortening his composite prop by 2 inches. The aircraft was inspected for hidden damage , including an internal inspection of the reduction gear box and prop shaft and firewall. No other damage was found.
