From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

I was advised of and am investigating this incident however inspector privacy data omitted was the inspector who was on site the day following the incident. The pilot stated that he bought this aircraft as a wreck and re constructed it prior to this incident flight. He also stated that he did not note previous damage on structural members of the wing until the teardown following this latest incident. Pilot statement followsmy name is privacy data omittedN350DBON July 9 2011 I had a recently completed amateur built experimental amfib float trike inspected and issued an airworthiness certificateon the morning of July 10 2011 at apx 8:00AM I taxied my newly completed amateur built experimental weight shift controlled amphibious trike into lake joanna in Eustis floridathe winds were light about 4 mph from the southwesti taxied to the northeast end of the lake turned into the wind and attempted to step taxi the aircraftit came on step quickly and everything felt good I then added some power when the aircraft reached apx. 35 mph and the wing was just starting to fly it made a sudden unexpected hard left turn and flipped overi was not injured and damage to the aircraft was minimali detached the wing removed the prop and towed it to shoreit is my opinion that the wing had a major left turn in it and that is what caused it to flip overi had purchased the wing used and when assembling it I could see where it was previously repairedit is my hind sight that tells me I should have test flown the aircraft for the first time from land to adjust and tune the wing and insure it flew straight before flying off the wateri have 4,500 hours total time with over 3,000 hours of it in weight shift trikes I build and design my own experimental weight shift trikes and believe this accident occurred from a wing with a very bad left turn in itto remedy the wing I have ordered two new leading edges from the wing manufacture north wing in Washington statesince I had seen signs of a previous undocumented repair to the wing when assembling itprivacy data omitted
