From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot reports that without prior indication or warning, loss of engine power. RPM and fuel flow at less than normal idle RPM and fuel flow, no throttle or mixture response, suspecting that engine was merely windmilling. Attempts at restart/regaining of engine power unsucessful. Gradual descent down to waters of cook inlet, AK 1 - 2 mi. Ea. Of kalgin island. Floats broke away on landing, aircraft later sunk. Airworthiness is the only area of FAA nine areas of responsibility in question. Pilot competency not in question, pilot current, fuel management seemingly rational, fuel depletion ruled out. Fuel contamination not in question. Loss of engine power due to undetermined reason(s).there will be no attempt at retrieval of aircraft.
