From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On July 28, 2011 at approximately 1215 EST, N1443U registered to ATP aircraft LLC departed ruwnay 17 at the Palm Beach county Glades airport (phk) in Pahokee, Florida destined for ft. lauderdale executive airport in ft. lauderdale, Florida on a routine instructional flight. The student pilot was flying the aircraft. On climbout at approximately 500 above mean sea level (MSL) the aircraft experienced a partial loss of power. The flight instructor took over control of the aircraft and elected to make a 180 degree turn back to the Pahokee airport in order to attempt a landing on runway 35.the aircraft was too high and fast to land on runway 35 and overshot the runway. Due to obstructions at the end of runway 35, the instructor elected to turn to the left towards lake okeechobee, located adjacent to the Pahokee airport, and land the aircraft on the lake. The aircraft touched down on the lake approximately 250 yards off shore and flipped over. Both occupants exited the aircraft and swam towards the floating wreckage where they waited on top to be rescued. Both occupants were subsequently rescued by local authorities. Both occupants were taken to the local hospital. The student pilot was treated for minor injuries and released. The flight instructor had no injuries and was released. The aircraft wreckage was removed from lake okeechobee on July 29,2011 by air & sea recovery and relocated to the Palm Beach county Glades airport (phk).
