From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot flew several touch and go operations at Ashland airport and then departed the airport to the east for sightseeing. He was in cruise flight 3 to 4 miles from the airport at 1000 feet AGL. The engine lost all power and privacy data omitted set up to land going uphill in some uneven terrain. He bounced three times and on the third bounce, the front landing gear structure folded under and trapped the pilot in the aircraft, unhurt. Pilot thought he was flying under part 103. He was under part 91 and therefore not properly certificated.
