From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

At approximately 2 miles from K18A, with runway insight, he cancelled IFR and configured aircraft for a straight in landing to the east. 30 seconds later, the engine sputtered and went silent. privacy data omitted Called mayday to ATC center and raised flaps to extend glide as speed continued to decay. privacy data omitted, Emergency landed in a grass field, approximately .5 mile from K18A, at a heading of 99 degrees. On initial impact, left landing gear first, the left and right landing gear assemblies were detached from the aircraft, sheering off at the chrome section of the struts. The next impact area, the engine assembly detached from the firewall and the left main strut stuck, pivoting the aircraft left 170 degrees.
