From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Student pilot took off from Ellington Airport at approx. 11:30 a. m. and preceded to gls to do some touch and goes. Upon touch down (mains) at gls he became suspicious of a nose gear problem. (Fixed gear) he gave the aircraft full throttle and climbed back up. He flew direct to pearland regional airport were he did a fly by with the tower confirming he had no nose wheel fork assy or tire. They recommended he fly to Ellington field where they have emergency equipment and crews. He made an emergency landing on runway 22 (east to west). The aircraft skidded on the nose gear strut approximently 350 feet before coming to a stop. No other damage to the aircraft. Pilot had shut down the engine at approx 100 feet with the propeller being in the horizontal position. No passenger and no injuries. 08/23/2011, further investigation revealed the spindle which is bonded onto the strut assy (at mfg) debonded and slid off of the strut assy which the scissor assy and tire are attached to .
