From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot in commands (PIC) of CE-207 N73789, and CE-208 N207DR, mutually agreed to operate as a flight of two from the vicinity of toksook bay, Alaska, to bethel, Alaska. In level cruise flight, the PIC of the 208, which was positioned to the left of the 207, flew up and over the 207, then descended steeply under its right wing. While passing beneath the 207, the 208'S vertical stabilizer was sheared when it contacted the trailing edge of the 207'S wing approximately where the flap and aileron intersect. The 208'S descent continued and it impacted the terrain. Its PIC was fatally injured. The 207 PIC made an emergency landing and received minor injuries. Unique to this midair is that the two pic's were romantically involved. Absent this relationship, it is reasonably unlikely they would have been deliberately flying in such close proximity.

As the FAA filed it
