On October 14, 2011 the Mooney aircraft departed from the stockton metropolitan airport (sck), to return to its home airport minden tahoe airport (mev) about 1145 a.m. the aircraft's hartzell propeller had an eddy current airworthiness directive inspection completed by on stockton propeller. After takeoff the pilot was given a transponder code prior to departure and picked up 'flight following' with norcal TRACON. The aircraft was climbing through 7000 feet when the pilot felt a slight shudder. As the aircraft was level at 9500 feet, the pilot noticed the engine oil pressure was decreasing. The prop went to flat pitch and then the pilot pulled it all the way back. The engine oil pressure remained in the yellow arc. The pilot declared an emergency and asked air traffic for the closest airport. The controller gave the pilot information that the Calaveras county (cpu) was approximately 8 miles away. The pilot pulled the engine to idle and began a descent to the airport. The controller gave the pilot additional airport information and then changed to CTAF. The cpu traffic cleared the airport for the emergency. The pilot planned a dead stick landing - power and pitch remained full aft and was not touched. The aircraft landed long and blew the main tires while braking heavily. The aircraft ended up stopping short of the runway overrun. The inspector authorization mechanic at a local fixed base operator found a section of cylinder wall on the number two cylinder had delaminated and passed through the engine. privacy data omitted Owner of N7432V Mooney M-20-F
As the FAA filed it
ON OCTOBER 14, 2011 THE MOONEY AIRCRAFT DEPARTED FROM THE STOCKTON METROPOLITAN AIRPORT (SCK), TO RETURN TO ITS HOME AIRPORT MINDEN TAHOE AIRPORT (MEV) ABOUT 1145 A.M. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ OWNER OF N7432V MOONEY M-20-F
