Southwest airlines flight 2287, a Boeing 737 aircraft, attempted to depart the Sacramento international airport at approximately 1813 hrs on December 27, 2011. During the take off roll at approximately 95 knots, the take off was aborted due to blown main landing gear tires on the left side of the aircraft. The aircraft exited the runway but did not totally clear the runway and stopped. The captain requested emergency equipment to check the aircraft and advise the crew of the aircraft status. There was no fire observed and the passengers were deplaned with the use of portable stairs. Southwest airlines mechanics jacked the aircraft and installed temporary wheel and tire assemblies in order to tow the aircraft to a parking spot. The aircraft was inspected by the FAA on December 28, 2011. No defects were noticed with the brake assemblies. The left inboard mid flap assembly had tire rubber impact damage on the leading edge surface. A tear in the mid flap skin was noted. The lower mid flap cove panel was dented. There were two tire rubber impact dents on the left aft fuselage. An inspection of the removed wheel and tire assemblies revealed that the outboard wheel assembly had four adjacent wheel half tie bolts missing or sheared. Three bolts were missing and one was sheared. The issue of missing or sheared tie bolts. Is considered a primary factor contributing to the incident reference Boeing service letter 737-SL-32-111-A. The Sacramento county airport personnel cleaned the runway and recovered rubber from that separated from the tires. They found no metal or foreign objects. The aircraft flight data recorder and the wheel and tire assemblies to include the recovered rubber were shipped to the southwest airlines main base in dallas, TX for further examination by southwest airlines personnel and the FAA southwest airlines certificate management office. Several post incident maintenance inspections as required by the aircraft maintenance manual are being performed by southwest airlines maintenance personnel. Damaged areas are being addressed. Associated system troubleshooting and operational checks are to be performed satisfactorily prior to returning the aircraft to service.
